Ashton Shopping

On Tuesday I went to Ashton shopping, Ashton-u-lyne that is!.
Whilst there I called in at what used to be Roundabout Toys, there was some confusion as to if and when they would be opening again.
They never did much in the way of boats, but always had a selection of materials we all use at one time or another.
I've cleared up the problem, they have opened up again and one of the staff that worked there before as taken over the smaller premises but is only doing computer games and whose war games figures you see in that kind of shop, still it's each to their own and it would be a sad world if we were all the same wouldn't it.
Next door that was the other half of roundabout toys is now going to open as a Fancy dress shop, so some thing for others perhaps?

I've not put this shop in the shops section as I don't think it will be of much use to our members.

Trip to Colwyn Bay Regatta

Yesterday 22nd of July 2012 saw a good turnout of Etherow members at the Colwyn Bay Mayor's Regatta.
This yearly event was bigger that ever this year, proving its popularity, with more clubs represented thought the turnout of traders was not very good. I heard a CB member talking to the raffle stall man saying the a trader had sent a gift voucher to add to the raffle prizes as he couldn't make it, at least he made an effort.
The lack of traders didn't detract from the overall show and a good time and weather was enjoyed by all, you can always tell can't you when people don't rush away after a quick look round.

Here are a few pictures from on the day.
Another version of John Teal's "Jojo"

A Maggie M

A nice collection from the Southport stand.

The next one's are for George Barrett, Narra boat complete with riveting!

I was very interested with this version of an "Our Lass 11", which was very well detailed and I took a lot of pix's of this to copy the detailing for mine.

On the way home I stopped at Rhyl Air Show, just it time to see the acrobatics and then these fighter planes did their fly pass, in fact passed a few times, what a noise and at that speed I suppose in action you don't hear the noise cos you are already dead!

So all in all a good day and another event where Etherow could show it's banner.
Looking forward to next year, perhaps get some tables there next time.

New members

New Members

Over the past couple of weeks we have acquired quite a few new members, some are in model boating for the first time, so will require your help and guidance amassed over the years!, I know you will all welcome them and give them your help, I remember when I first started and the help I received at the time was invaluable.
There are a few people round the park I've spoken to and would like to join, but have no boat and not the skills to build one, and there again the summer would be over before it was built, What Summer I hear you ask!!
If you have any surplus boats if you contact me I will put them on the "For sale" section of the website, remember these people have nothing, so would require a full set up that they can charge the battery and go on the water, there must be plenty of boats out there on the shelves that you haven't sailed for years  and trannies when you've updated to 2.4 Gig.
Check out the Club friends section on the right, there are a few new members there, I will try and catch the others as soon as I can.

If you are thinking of going to the Colwyn Bay Model Boat Club Mayors Regatta, (22nd July 2012) I've put all the details on the landing stage notice board, complete with Sat Nav postcode if you've not been before.
They have a great raffle and auction, and 4 traders booked!
And if you've not been before check out the video here for last year to give you some idea of the venue

Club night 11th July 2012

Club night has rolled round again, for this night's meeting after the announcement's Alan Higham will be offering a selection of boat related goodie's for sale at very good prices.
This might be you chance to pick up that part you wanted rather than wait for the next show"!.

The next show on my program will be the Colwyn Bay Mayor's Regatta. This is not a club event and it will be a case of going yourself and meeting there, but we have been invited to go individually or as a club. this is a very good event that I can personally recommend and Bob the Abell and myself will be showing the Great Eastern, as we have been invited to do.
Event date
 22nd July 2012.
For more details see, events and show's tab at the top of the page

Roy's warship

Received this e-mail from Roy Cragg who has kindly sent us the details of one of his many warships, As we will be having a Warship Day in September thought it would get you in the mood for it.
..........................................................................................................................
Hi Peter. As promised here are the photo attachment of my model of the WW2 Defender Class Destroyer. These ships were built in the early 1930s and served well into the war. Of the eight ships in the class only this ship H.M.S. Decoy survied the war, and was handed over to the Canadian Navy in 1943 and took part in the D-Day landings.

                                                            Best Wishes.

                                                                        Roy.

I'll not show my ignorance and try to name the different pix's, if you want to know any more details you will have to get in touch with Roy as he is a member of the Warship Association.
What detail involved here Hey!

Thanks for these Roy, nice pictures and makes a change from my rambling's
