Matchstick Masterpiece

Want a challenge?
How about this chap's model!.

Not much going on at the lake at the moment due to the bad weather we have been having lately, still its not as bad as a lot of people round the world are experiencing.
The lake is now free of ice!, the last time I was down to the lake Trevor and Bob were sailing with their yacht's round the ice berg's and enjoying every minute of it, that's dedication for you!.

Pictures from to-day's visit with Pepe
Landing stage looking nice but empty!

Cafe,Toilets and warden's office

Weir under green bridge in full flood!.
Nice walk round to keep warm and see the wildlife.
There are some swans back at the moment 1 adult and 3 cygnets, hopefully they might stay, not had any for the last couple of years.

Next big event at the club will be the Quiz and Hotpot supper
27th February 2013
More to follow shortly, poster will be on landing stage as well!.

Lake up-date

When to the lake to-day, not to sail a boat!, to have a bit of lunch at the Cafe and give Pepe my Chihuahua a walk round, I don't think he was very impressed!.
As I thought the lake was frozen over.
Not to be deterred the usual Thursday sailors were there again trying to break the ice to have enough space to sail, mad or dedicated I ask myself?, there again I was there to do a bit of repair work on the landing stage, so does that put me in the same category as them, I think so!.
As you can see quite dull and the water frozen over.
Replaced the rotten piece of wood near the rescue boat house, that was enough for me, it was off to the Cafe where I found that the tables and chairs outside on the balcony have been replaced, metal  tables and metal chairs, quite cold on the old bones in this weather! and table cloth's!!, will all be in the lake with a gust of wind no doubt, but the chip butties were up to their usual standard with more chips than a pig could eat!.

Don't forget the fee's are due at this time of year, so why not pop down to the next club meeting on the 23th January and take your wallet, good company and the bar is always open!.

Duckie, News on the 10th, Etherow, 2013

As is unusual at the moment it wasn't raining in Thursday the 10th Jan 2013, so it was off to Etherow with Pepe to see if the Thursday crowd were there and I wasn't disappointed.
Not much of a background view looking in that direction is it!

Colin with his new scratch-built barge

Cold but enjoying the company.
2013 Diary on the notice board in the background!.

And there to my surprise was another Aziz, the maiden voyage by Eric. That's two in the club (including mine above in the header picture) and I know there is another one in Frank's workshop at the moment should be finished for the Spring, must be popular!.

Different deck load than mine.

Eric decided it needed some weight taking out of the stern end

As you can see there wasn't much wind for the yacht sailors, but you can't keep them off the water for long.

Garth's tug in the background waiting for a tow.

Another few tugboats to complete the set

Commodore's Tug

So cool but dry what more can you ask for in January, Sunshine!! yes but your not going to get it so as these members make the best of what you've got.

There's one in every holiday snap isn't there!.

Not quite this bad on the day.

The Commodore’s Challenge 2013.

Just received note of the Commodores Challenge for this coming year, so you will have plenty of time to sort out your plans and strategy
so;
The Commodore’s Challenge 2013.
11.00 am Sunday 8th September 2013

Later this year we will be holding the annual commodore’s challenge; so to give ample time for preparations I will convey now the broad outlines of the task. It’s a straight runner project, a repeat, by popular demand, of last year’s successful event but with one minor change to the rules.  This time we will allow the installation of a single servo to control an on/off switch. This will allow the competitor to stop the motor before the boat hits the landing stage or adjacent concrete edge to the lake. Because the boats will be launched from the Cafe side of the lake in the direction of the landing stage,  I would strongly recommend the use of a right handed propeller.  Good luck and I hope there will be plenty of entries to make it a fun event.

The Commodore’s Challenge 2013 – The Rules
Build a straight running boat to the following specifications:
·         length:   36 inches minimum to 60 inches maximum
·         Beam: 4 inches minimum
·         Motor: 540
·         Battery: 4v to 7.2v
·         Single propeller
·         A single servo (with receiver & transmitter) linked to an on/off switch is permitted but not mandatory
The boat will be aimed at a target; the highest score will be the winner.

The competition will be run by Alan & Eddie Higham, any queries on the competition contact them or the commodore.

There is a tab at the top of the page so you can refer to it during the year so you don't have to keep finding this post

Another Eureka moment from Bob Abell
I needed several dowels........Exactly the same length with square ends......
Jig required!
Take a piece of material with the width being the final dowel length
Drill several holes slightly larger than the dowel size
Place the dowels in the holes and sand the tops off!
And.........Bobs yer uncle!

Thanks again Bob!.

This is part of a new series of Eureka Moments that can be found
on the tab up at the top, or by clicking here
