Seabex One at Etherow Nov 2013

A couple of weeks ago I took a video of Rob Gibb's Seabex One it was on the same day that Bob Abell had his maiden voyage with his "Ellie" Vintage Broads Cruiser, so I didn't want to excite you with too much on the same post, also it's a bit of a pain loading up onto YouTube it seems to take forever.
So here is Rob's beautiful model boat which has many features like sounds systems and helicopters that lift off the heli-deck, pod props two at the rear and two at the front as bow thrusters, to name a few, perhaps you could ask him next time you see him about other features.

You still have time to put in your nominations for the next committee positions see the notice that's in the corridor at the clubhouse, closing date 27th November 2013

27th November 2013 is also the last date for your forms and monies to be paid to Mike for the Christmas dinner at the Hare and Hounds, Werneth Low.

Vintage Broads Cruiser "Ellie"

Today Pepe and I went to the lake at Etherow to assist my mate Bob the Abell launch his prototype model boat, I was the filmmaker really whilst Bob setup and  sailed his boat.
This boat was designed by Paul Thomason off the Model Boat Magazine forum, and it's a hull with three different superstructures, and commissioned Bob to make the first prototype (Vintage Broads cruiser version) after seeing his efforts with his Great Eastern, which had had three articles in Model Boat magazine and appeared in the "Coast" program about laying the first telegraph cable to America .
Back to the "Ellie", the plans for this boat are for sale now that Paul is satisfied that all the wrinkles with Bob's help are all ironed out, and the proceeds will all go into a charity.

As you can see the maiden voyage went very well, it hadn't even been wet until the lake today, there's confidence for you, so well done Paul the designer and Bob the builder!.
Enjoy the video and if you like the boat perhaps this could be your next build and we have the prototype builder in the club if you run into any trouble, can't get better than that can you.

More good publicity for our club .

Good day at the lake, made better still with an excellent dinner in Bob's campervan!.

Thats all for now folks.

Judging of boats 2013

Club night last night was the second showing of boats, for those members that couldn't get to the Sunday showing.
I'd said that Alan and I was surprised that there was only him and I there for that and hoped there would be a bit more competition next time, well last night went a bit better with another 5 boats making an appearance.
Here are all the entries for both showings

There you have it, if you didn't manage to get down to see the entries, you can see for yourselves and make your own judgement on your particular type and section. Can you guess who the different owners are?.

Not a lot of entries for a club our size, but thats not to detract from the people who entered and I am always of the opinion that you pay your fee and make your choice what you want to participate in in the club, Sailing,Modelling or Social side, though there are places that could be entered on the Nomination form for the Committee next year, the club doesn't run itself does it!.

The members I've spoken to about the Warwick show all said it was great and some brilliant models on show there!.

Last night Mike announced the venue and price for the club Christmas Dinner, as follows
The Hare and Hounds, Werneth Low, Gee Cross, Hyde.
Tuesday 3rd December 2013.
Price £20 per head
(there is other stuff on the menu as well)
There is a good choice of menu and as I've been there quite often can recommend the place.
You will need to get in touch with Mike Hodgson ASAP.
The closing date for this event is the next club meeting
27th November 2013, as you will appreciate its the dinner the following week so Mike has to get everything in place in that one week!.

That's it for now folks, see you at the dinner if not before.

Past week

Last Sunday was the Judging of Boats for this years competition, there was a shortage of Boats there really with only myself (a Narrow boat)  and Alan Breese (a Fishing trawler) exhibiting, maybe this was due the the heavy rain on the day and members didn't want to get themselves or their boats wet!, let's hope so anyway and hopefully there will be a lot more competition for Alan and I at the next showing on the next club night, see below!.
I will publish pictures of all the boats when I see the others at the next showing. Alan his wife Jenny and I retired to the cafe during the judging and we both thought it was a sign of the times that there are not many scratchbuilders about these days and a lot of people seem to be buying ready made models, hence the success of the "For Sale" section of the web site, there again kits on there seen to be sticking, or is it the price!.
Check out the "For sale" section, some more boats added perhaps, since the last time you looked.
Its the trip to Warwick this weekend , so I hope all of those of you going have a good day out and don't suffer the same fate as Del Boy on his pub day out, there again perhaps I shouldn't tempt fate!
