EMBC has a strong model Yachting Section, with about 20 active members who sail regularly.

Yacht Racing on the Small Lake

Midweek sailing sessions usually attract more than 10 boats.

The largest fleets will be seen on Tuesdays and Thursdays when organised sailing sessions are held from about 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., depending on the weather. There is also a sailing session on Sundays, from 10 a.m. until noon.

The racing is strong but friendly, and we always welcome new members. The largest fleet is international One Metre yachts, but there are also a number of Canterbury J Class yachts and Fiestas. All classes are welcome.

Sailing usually takes place on the small lake where there is no restriction on the times sailed. However, the water depth is limited and shorter keels will be required on One Metre yachts.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays we are able to use part of the large lake, normally used by the Sailing Club, where there is no depth restriction and good launching and control areas.

For more information on the Yacht and Sail Section, contact the Commodore, John Berry.
