A Tuesday in the park Plus Haydock park details.

Whilst in the park on Tuesday, found these boats being sailed by members in the nice hot sunshine. Though there wasn't much wind for the yachts everyone was in high spirits with the weather, with comments like "I can decorate when it's raining" and "the grass will still be there when I get home" my sentiments entirely!.

 Alan's fishing boat

David S's coast guard cutter, good turn of speed though only on 6Volts

Dave Lees warship USS Iowa

A nice Fiesta sailed by Andrew Spencer.

 Eric's dragon force.

Last but not least a small flotilla of late arrival babies a bit further down the lake away from the hussle and bussle of the crowds.

Details

Haydock Park Racecourse - 23/24th Aug. 2014
Theme of this year is Naval Vessels and Submarines

Exhibitions and shows are coming thick and fast at this time of year, the next big one is the above show. They are a little stricter than most so everyone needs to be aware of the procedure if they intend to go and/or exhibit.
Exhibiting
If you are exhibiting on our club stand you will need separate passes for Saturday and Sunday, please see me. Boats should be delivered to the stand on Friday between 3.p.m, and 7.p.m., or on Saturday morning between 9 and 9.30.a.m. and should not depart until after the closing ceremony on Sunday.
Disabled parking will need to be applied for beforehand, again see me. Your disabled badge will also need to be displayed.
There are a number of competitions at the convention, all boats must have been made by the entrant. Anyone wanting to enter the various classes, please see me for details or maps to get there etc. as details must be submitted in advance of the show by 9th Aug.
Also I need to have all details of boats that you intend to exhibit, I will try and get as much as possible on club night but please contact me if necessary. Do remember that you just can’t turn up on the day if you are exhibiting, I need to know in advance so that I can send in their forms.
I have been asked by the organisers to remind all members that only a pass will provide free entrance to the show, and that only exhibitors will be provided with a pass. Being a member is not an automatic qualification for a pass.
The show itself is open between 10.a.m. and 5.pm. both days. Refreshments and snacks are available on site, as are disabled facilities. Admission is £6 for adults (without a pass), £2 for children 5-16 and free for under 5’s.
Please see me if you need any more information or want to give me details of your exhibits – remember naval boats or subs’ only.

Gordon Longworth – Exhibition Sec.

I know it is not for a few weeks yet, but I have to have all the paperwork to them by 9th Aug.

Gordon

Details will be in Tabs under the header until after the event!.

Club 500 results July 2014

Hi All, Here are the results for racing on the 17th July 2014.
   Philip

p.s. Sorry John the line through your results is/ was by accident. P

After this hectic event on Wednesday evening,  Thursday afternoon I was down at the lake and when the "J" Class guys had gone home, it was a more relaxed scene with just plain sailing and not a competitive thought anywhere!.
Or was there?, Terry Miles was there with his latest builds, two little "Footies"

 This one was Terry's

And this one was his wife's

See what I mean, who is going to give way here?!

A relaxing afternoon, unless you get in Charlies way that is.

Glynn hasn't been home for a change of shirt this is another afternoon with his micro speed boat

And his little River Cruiser?, reminds me of that old lady on the telly (Hilda Baker ) who used to say "I must get a little finger on this watch, as Glynn keeps saying I must get a cabin for this!.

Another event being put on in the Park is this Demonstration, not by our club but you may pick up some useful tips on working with wood here.
Time for this is 10-0am to 4-00pm

Have you seen this dog, £1,000 reward, could buy a few new boats with that kind of money, plus make some owner very happy!.

If you can't read this very well the notice in up in the cafe.

Well that's it for today, off out whilst the sun's shining.

Visit to Colwyn Bay show

The members who visited the Colwyn Bay show again this year were not disappointed, after setting off from Manchester in pouring rain it got slowly better as we got into Wales and on arrival it was starting to get nice and sunny though there was a stiff breeze over the water which made it a bit choppy.
Talking of Bleeze's our Commodore was taken ill and wasn't able to manage it, so we didn't have a gazebo though as you can see we managed in true Etherow fashion.
A good cross section of boats on show and on the water.

Higham Brothers
Sorry this is a bit out of focus, must have been a flashback from your dazzling smiles lads!.

The venue.

Gordon sampling the goodies from the catering tent.

The Colwyn Bay ladies doing a good job as always.

Disabled, no problem in model boating, make em and then sail em!.

 The Hoylake crowd

The "For Sale" stand, Not Donald!, I hasten to add!.

A few of the other clubs in attendance

Small outfit with big dog

That sinking feeling, those that were there the previous year realised it's supposed to do that.

Our friends that we met at our Do at Lyme Park, Garth and Elizabeth Jones with their fabulous Nessie the Loch Ness monster were there from Yorkshire and Nessie was a great hit again.
Garth has just finished this superb boat, the build which has been published in the Model Boat magazine forum over the last three years and completely scratchbuilt and wonderfully weathered, look at that handy carrying handle.

The only sour point for me was the fact the Best scratchbuilt model went to the same guy that won last year, a Colwyn Bay member I beleive, that can't happen at our club as the winner this year is one of the Judges next year, which gives others a chance to win, this is only my opinion, (I try to keep an open mind) and not the opinion of our club, still it might put people off bothering next year don't you think!.

The winner of the scratch build, I'm into Narra boats myself, but two years on the run!.

Well thats all for now, if you didn't manage to get there it will give you a taste of what you missed, loved it, good weather, good catering and good company, is there anything better.

Thanks to all of you for coming to sail, it was a very good turn out keep Um coming.

See you all next month David Lee.

......................................
Sorry wasn't able to get to the lake for the Warship Do, hopefully someone will send in a few pictures of the event and how we did on the Help 4 Heroes, side of the day.
On the continuation of the duck saga as reported in the last couple of posts, the landing stage has been completely free of duck poo since the new edging and string duck deterrent system was put in place, though on Saturday when I went to the lake I met Eric Smith and we saw that there were a few ducks sat sunning themselves and Eric pointed out to me that they were Limbo dancing under the entrance gate and also under the string near to the boat box where it is a bit shallower  !.

Still clean though

Limboing under the string.

So the system is working for keeping the geese out, but needs a bit more tweaking for the ducks, possibly a bit of an extension on the gates and a few more strings (Net) on the rescue boat end hey.

Well its nice to go on the landing stage and not have to get out the ladle and brushes every time,

Here is a picture of that Bloke who keeps coming to the landing stage with a camera and a small yapping dog, sailed today on the nice clean landing and after the clouds cleared away had a nice quiet lonely sail!.

So you see, I do have boats and have to add my own here when there's no one else there!.

That's it of now, see you at the lake!.
Peter

Danger men at work, part 2

After the work day at the lake yesterday, I went to the lake again today to see the reaction of the regular Thursday sailors.
Upon arrival I found a happy bunch of sailors who reported that "We have never been here and not had to wash off the landing stage" BUT today not a bird poop anywhere!.

Happy sailors

Moored up, "J" Class.

German Raider "Atlantis", film was on the TV this week about this ship called "Under 10 flags"

String on posts!
And there is the proof that Mike's idea works, as clear today as we left it yesterday!.

Yeah of little faith!!.

Danger men at work!.

Went to the lake yesterday (Wednesday 2nd July 2014) as I had heard the work was going to be started on the landing stage edging, purely in my role as, Duckie Teal, News at Ten (am).

With Le Commodore watching over proceedings

Sections being made up ready for drilling and tapping to waters edge, Mike and Geoff seemed to be in charge, though most of the committee were there.
They didn't want to announce the occasion as there wouldn't have been room to move, thats why Wednesday was decided on I reckon!, its usually a quiet day.

Patent maker Geoff

How many more Mike?.

 Tricky bit here.

Nice of the Commodore to tip Mike wasn't it.

Hold it for me lads!.

Right to the end

Alan weiding his big stick, oh no its a brush isn't it, doing his pointing of the flag stones

Nice job Alan, Gardeners World next hey!.

 Any sausage Geoff.

What was that!.

I'll never get home at this rate

Finishing touches and Andy winding down

Gate end, the uprights and string are hopefully going to keep the wildlife off the stage, if it doesn't work Mike says he will take them off again.

Rescue boat end.

Finished job and all cleared up!.
A big thank you to the workers and a superb job!.
