New builds at the lake.

Over the past week or so there have been quite a few new builds on the lake, so I thought i would give you a run down of them.

First of all there was Mark Jarvis with his tug.

Tranny Bag

But of more interest to me personally was the tranny Bag that Mark had, I'd ask one of the other members about one of these the back end of last year and he had said they were about £30+ (I think), but Marks bag from Hobby King was only £7+ and the postage which makes it very interesting.

Mark advised to make sure you order from their UK warehouse and not the International warehouse as the postage would cost more than the Bag.

I've ordered one myself and will publish my findings and bring it to the next meeting, when I get it of course.

Next new boat on the lake was Eric Presleys 10 hatch coaster, very nice build as usual by Eric, and I know about this Model Slipway kit as I've had one for a few years!.

Sits nice on the water, this was the first time out so Eric was still working on the weight to get it onto the waterline and stop the cavitation at the stern, hence the roll of lead on the deck just at the back of the hatches.

Next on the table was Rob's Tornado 80, he had had this one at the lake a few days previously to test it for water tightness and brought it back with a refit of a brushless motor, receiver and better batteries, which balanced the boat better and brought the bow up more!.

 As you can see its a bit nose heavy on this picture.

Name's Bond, James Bond!.

As the following video shows, its alright now and going like a bomb, not too much speed at the moment as Rob's getting used to the speed of this craft.

                            

Last but not least another flyer, This is another new member with a boat that he's taken the i/c engine out and installed a big water jet propulsion unit run by a big brushless motor.

 And here it is, too fast to get a video of it with my small camera, perhaps next time!.

I thought you couldn't had a reverse on a water jet boat, but this is how you do it with this servo controlled scoop!, still what I know about these high tech things I could get on the back of a stamp, there again they are too dear to be writing of them these days.

The last club meeting if you didn't manage to get there was a talk by Michael Street on the trials and tribulations of getting his Submarine to float right and rise and submerge properly, will try to get a picture on the water for you next time he's out.

Good talk and plenty of chances to ask questions on this subject and the In's and Out's of  Ni Cad batteries!.

There again catch Michael at the lake if you want to know anything else about this subject as it's not my thing.

The small boat and transmitter on the kitchen shelf there is the boat to be used by all entrants in the Commodores challenge this year, see the tab at the top above the Red Boat to see the details of this event.

Well that's it for another day, off for a wash and brush up and down to the lake with the faithful hound for a bit of lunch and check out the scene on the water today!.

Happy New Year to everyone.

Well the last event of what I thought was a very successful year for the club was held at the Frostbite Day Sail, and though it was a very cold and windy day the hardy members of the club were out on the landing stage having a sail, at least they didn't have to break any ice this year!.

The more sense-abell of us went in the clubhouse and stayed there having a good chat and enjoying the delicious hot soup and buns provided by Mike the social sec doing his usual great job.

Speaking of great jobs!, I'm sure you will join me in congratulating the committee for a good year past and wishing the incoming new members of this years team all the best in their efforts to provide us with another great year. You've heard of the Two Ronnies? well we have now got the Two Alan's, Alan Breeze the Commodore and Alan Higham his Vice Commodore, not forgetting Gordon Longworth the new Exhibition Sec, Good luck in your efforts and endeavours you guys!.

Nearly forgot, message from Andy, Club Sec.

Could you post the following information on the Website.

I had reason to return to the landing stage today (Tuesday) after 6 PM to retrieve an item I had left behind after sailing this morning.   Luckily My lost item was still where I had left it.   I also found a Transmitter/Controller.   It was left on the landing stage floor, switched on, and totally abandoned.   If the owner of this Item can describe it by make and model, I shall be pleased to return it to them.

I posted about this a while back, saying it would be a good policy to put your name on your tranny so it could be identified quicker and returned to the owner so you are not off the water waiting to get it back!.

May Bank Holiday weekend 2013.

The May Bank Holiday weekend got off to a good start with the fiesta racing on the Sunday morning, by Sunday evening I had the results from the Fiesta Sec as follows.

Hi to all

Weather much better this month, even had wind.

We had twelve  races in all, weather OK.

Five turned up to race. We had 12 races in all, had a good day's racing.

All we need now is more to come and race.

Trevor Redford came  1st, Terry Miles 2nd, Richard Hemingway 3rd, Bob Dunkey 4th, David Lee 5th.

On the Monday bank Holiday, whilst I was at the lake, had a drink with Colin and his wife at the Cafe then it was on to the landing stage for a chat with Eric and to see Gordon Longworth's latest build, Graupner's paddle tug "Glasgow" 

This is a very nice clean build.

The Black Widow.

You should remember Terry Burnett's last build, The Beady Eye, a small but very fast boat, well he's done it again!, and here is his report on the construction of it.

Specifications. Hull fibreglass (bathtub quality) does not require paint. Imported from Germany. 

Jet Drive: Kehrer Jet Pump specially developed by Thomas Kehrer of Germany. 35mm impeller.

Motor:Turnigy Aquastar. Water cooled, 2200KV

Speed Controller: Aquastar programmable. Water cooled 120amp

Battery: 3600mAh 11.1V Lipo

Water cooling exhaust pipes: Stainless steel

This is not a kit.

Commissioned at Etherow.

Power consumption (measured) at full throttle 99amps

Performance...frightening cannot open the throttle fully at Etherow as we run out of pond in 2 seconds

Stationary at full throttle: Cannot restrain, not scientific but best I can do, I may measure the thrust in the future.
