Yacht Racing Section

The Yachting racing section of EMBC sail on Sunday mornings on the small lake when no other events are scheduled i.e. Steerage class  and scale model regattas.

There is dedicated Fiesta racing on the first Sunday morning of each month in the warmer months.

We also race on Tuesdays and Thursdays when we can use the big lake (yachts only) between 10 am and 3pm. This was confirmed at the Water Users meeting in 2017.
The midweek racing has attracted over 10 regular skippers and there is good interest form the sailing club to which EMBC are affiliated and whose facilities we share.  Racing is of a good standard and Model Yacht Racing rules are applied, however we are a friendly group and any disputes about rights of way etc are soon agreed amicably over tea and biscuits in the clubhouse.
Racing is very keen and regularly we have all boats finishing within 1 minute

The first races in the 2018 midweek series are shown,
if you CLICK HERE

In 2018 we are hoping to keep a record of the sailing results and we will look to agreeing a programme shortly.

New year 2018.

Happy New Year to all our members and Readers.

You have seen Geoff's e-mail haven't you and sent in your renewal fees?, slightly up this year but the first time since I joined the club in 2006, which is very good in this day and age!.

David Lee sent me these pictures of his latest project a stream engine he has built himself!, clever chap.
.................
This is a photo of my new boiler, with engine getting it ready for new open steam launch.
David

More to the point he has sent it in to be published, with the number of members we have in the club I'd have hoped for a better response and had a few more to show you!.
All it requires is an e-mail with a picture and a few words of text and I will gladly publish it here.
Add it to your New Year resolutions to send in at least one contribution this year?.
Perhaps there isn't that much interest in the website any more, or is it that there are more readers than contributors out there.
The club web is only as good as its content and I'm sure people don't want it to be only my thoughts.
If there is anyone interested in taking over this site and has new idea's be my guest I will happily show them the ropes in getting started.
Have you looked in the 'For Sale' section lately, you might see something you fancy with your Christmas Money!.

Award for Phil of the Yacht Club!.

Today received this from Andy Glen our Secretary.

You will know Phil if you go regularly to our club nights, he's the guy who makes sure the bar is stocked up and is always there to help out with any joint events with our clubs.

Received it from the Secretary of the yacht Club.

Our own Phil Howarth has been honoured  by the Royal Yachting Association for his lifetime commitment as a volunteer at Etherow.

He was unable to attend the ceremony in London last Friday where he would have been presented with the award by HRH the Princess Royal.

The official programme for the event says: "Phil has been a member of Etherow Country Park Sailing Club (ECPSC) for more than 40 years and has served on the committee continuously.

"He was involved in two major extensions to the club house; digging out the footings, constructing the internal walls and decorating and has given his free time and DIY skills to its upkeep.

"He has worked tirelessly to ensure that novice sailors receive quality instruction and feel welcome at the club, even lending his own dinghies to others.

"Supportive of the club’s initiatives to encourage participation and raise funds for charity, he has organised innovative events both on and off the water.

"Phil’s consistent commitment to all aspects of ECPSC has been crucial to its success."

Well deserved Phil, from all at the EMBC!.

2nd November 2017.

2nd November 2017 already!, where has the time gone the last month!.
This Thursday was at the lake and saw that we have a new rescue boat, well new to us that is!.
David Lee and a few others were busy fitting a a seat in it whilst I was there,

Alan The Breeze was sailing his warship.

Alan, not a care in the world!.
That's Colin in the background going for some more batteries, our lives seems to evolve round them these days don't they, what with Pacemakers and in some/my case hearing aids!.

This one will need a larger battery I'm sure!.

Then there are the One Metre's that usually run on small AA batteries with the wind supplying the power and the batteries just altering the position of the sails and rudder, little effort for so much speed.

You can probably put a face to the name but can you put a boat to the face??.
