The Arrangements for Eddie's Funeral are as follows.

The funeral will be at Macclesfield Crematorium on Monday the 3rd of March., at 10-00am.

The reception will be held at The Alderley Edge Hotel, 
Alderley Edge
 in the Laurent Perrier Suite. 

If you wish to go to the Reception, would you please contact George Barrett as soon as possible so he can inform the family as to numbers for the caterers.

Some good news and some bad Feb 2014

Today I have some good news and some bad!.

First the good news, the auction that was cancelled for the last club meeting due to bad weather is back on again this coming club night, 26th Feb 2014, so still a chance to grab a few bargains!.

Now for the bad news, I've just hear from Mike the social Sec that Eddie Outen one of the stalwarts of the club has passed away in his sleep and was found by his wife in bed, nothing more on this sad occasion at the moment but perhaps more will be announced at the next club meeting.

 So I'm sure you will join me in saying that we have lost a wonderful  member and a gentleman in Eddie, they don't come along  like him very often do they.

What more can I say, very sad, will publish any other information as and when I get it!.

Message from Exhibition Secretary 2014

I hadn't realized that the Ellesmere Show was only two weeks away until I got this email from Gordon the Exhibition Secretary, and as you will be able to read the weather is in a small part effecting us, but not in the serious way of those poor people in the south!.

Here is his email in full  

Sods law rears its ugly head as usual when you are trying to organise something! With the terrible weather last night putting a block on having a quick talk to members about the above show, can you please put a reminder about it to those who wish to go and show boats/have a sail/ or just simply attend, on the main blog page please.

The show is on Sat/Sun the 1/2nd March at the Boat Museum, Ellesmere Port. For those showing boats the venue is open on Friday P.M. for setting up, or Saturday 8.00am to 10.00am. If you arrive after that time the back gates will be shut and you will have to go in the main entrance, and PAY.

I have put together the attached for anyone who intends to show their stuff, can you cut and paste it somewhere?

Lastly and this is where sods law really gets in the way, I am going into hospital next Monday and don't know what state I will be in for the next 2/3 weeks or so, consequently may/may not be fit for the next meeting, or even the show itself, so Geoff Garside has ‘kindly’ offered to stand in for me (his arm is recovering well after I twisted it behind his back) and will be flourishing lists round at the next meeting for names of members who will be showing models, as I am hoping over the next few months to generate a data base of those who like to show off their skills, and get some idea of the standard of the models, so if we are short on space, or looking for particular classes of model – I will know who to call upon.

Here is some very good advice from Gordon on showing your models to the best advantage and showing the club stand at it's best. 

                                             

Please take a minute to read this if you intend to exhibit a model

·         Most exhibitions use tables that are 2ft wide (often doubled up) so where possible models around 4ft long, or less, are best.

·         Please only bring models that are worth putting on show, probably two maximum (bring as many as you want to actually sail) and not ‘stand-off’ models! They may look fine on our lake but people are seeing them close up and your detailed workmanship (or lack of it) reflects on our Club!

·         Take time to clean it and check it over beforehand, nothing looks worse than a boat out of the attic covered in dust and fingerprints, or with bits missing, or hanging loose.

·         If you have clothing with the club logo please wear it, also your membership badge must be worn.

·         Try to engage the public as they walk past and look at the models. The best way is to ask them a short question – it’s very difficult for them to ignore you that way. For example - Have you ever built anything like this? You look puzzled, can I help? Can you see the detail here? Are you local? Etc. etc.

·         Attending a display stand and maybe having to stand around all day can be both boring and very tiring. Try not to look uninterested – with arms folded leaning against a wall,  or clustered together in a group chatting and ignoring the public – They have paid to be there!

·         Ensure at all times that at least one member is on the stand, especially when there are young children about, to them our boats are toys – and even some adults can’t understand the words ‘please do not touch’!

·         We all need to have a break and a coffee/lunch, but try to keep it as unobtrusive as possible and don’t leave cups, lunch boxes, etc.  lying around amongst the display.

Lastly enjoy the day, arrange between yourselves times to go off and see the rest of the exhibition, or time to have a sail.

I was at the lake on Thursday 13th, and after the previous night when the club meeting was cancelled at short notice due to the weather , it was dry and just enough wind to please the sailors!, also met a couple of newish members who you can see in the members gallery so you will know them next time to see them.

Then it was off to the Cafe for a warm up and bite to eat and the usual chat with the members, catching up with the news and upcoming events, a nice day out!.

I'm sure you will join me in wishing Gordon a speedy recovery after his hospital visit.

Yesterday 4th Feb 2014.

Hi Folks 

Went to the lake yesterday and though it was sunny and dry the wind was still a bit cool, though it didn't seem to bother the Tuesday regular sailors.

Short post today mainly to let you know there will be another Auction this next Club meeting the 12th of February to sell off more of the late Ron Gill's tools and equipment, on the diary here but an extra to your small diary.

Happy bargain hunting you guys.

Hope you are keeping your eye on the diary on here as there are still changes happening as they are arranged by the Exhibition Sec.

I know the next video is not boat related but demonstrates the skill and dedication we need in our hobby and these people are not military but do it just for the pleasure of it the same as we do in our hobby, so watch it to the end  

Not much doing at this time of the year, so hope this entry with fill the gap, brought to my notice by Bob the Abell, thanks for that Bob!.

2014 Diary.

The 2014 diary is now available to view in the tabs at the top of the blog!.

As you will see there is some great news from Gordon the new Exhibition Sec!, we are going back to Lyme Park after a few years break, it seems there is a new events manager there now and he has agreed with Gordon for us to attend the Fathers Day event this year in June.

We have also been given a chance to go back again in September, this will be decided after the show in June, the new manager will obviously want to see the results of our behaviour at the first event!.
I'm sure everyone who has attended this great venue in the past will be as happy as I am to be going back there.
As you will see there are a few other new venues this year so it looks like it's going to be a good year again, but don't forget it's only as good as the attendance/effort the members put into it.

The days are getting longer now, but as I was saying to my friend Bob the Abell the worse weather is nearly always Febuary and March but looking at this years diary we have at least got plenty to look forward to this year.
The Commodores Challenge the year will be a Blind sailing event ??, see the tab at the top of the blog for details.

Next club meeting, 22nd Jan 2014

Hi Folks, been a bit busy since the Christmas holidays, but now settled back into the routine again.

If you missed the last club meeting as I did, we missed an impromptu auction I believe which raised about £300+, very nice!.

Well you are in luck again as Mike the Social sec phoned me to let you know that the next club meeting will be another Auction!, this time it is the Tools, kits and Boats of the late Ron Gill who sadly passed away recently.

Mrs Gill also has some Campervan equipment and a nearly new dishwasher she wants to sell, if you are interested in these type of non boat related things, if you contact Mike Hodgson  he will be able to confirm what is available and put you in touch with Mrs Gill.

Well, all being well I will certainly be at the next meeting and I'm sure the newer members will benefit from these auctions, as there are always bargains to be had there.

Well the last event of what I thought was a very successful year for the club was held at the Frostbite Day Sail, and though it was a very cold and windy day the hardy members of the club were out on the landing stage having a sail, at least they didn't have to break any ice this year!.

The more sense-abell of us went in the clubhouse and stayed there having a good chat and enjoying the delicious hot soup and buns provided by Mike the social sec doing his usual great job.

Speaking of great jobs!, I'm sure you will join me in congratulating the committee for a good year past and wishing the incoming new members of this years team all the best in their efforts to provide us with another great year. You've heard of the Two Ronnies? well we have now got the Two Alan's, Alan Breeze the Commodore and Alan Higham his Vice Commodore, not forgetting Gordon Longworth the new Exhibition Sec, Good luck in your efforts and endeavours you guys!.

Nearly forgot, message from Andy, Club Sec.

Could you post the following information on the Website.

I had reason to return to the landing stage today (Tuesday) after 6 PM to retrieve an item I had left behind after sailing this morning.   Luckily My lost item was still where I had left it.   I also found a Transmitter/Controller.   It was left on the landing stage floor, switched on, and totally abandoned.   If the owner of this Item can describe it by make and model, I shall be pleased to return it to them.
