The Sea Isn't For Sissies.

A few pictures and a video to show why your fish and chips cost so much these days

Here are some more pictures taken from the air.

They say even Nelson was seasick at times, I can see why.

Typical Thursday sailing at etherow

Thursday was a good day for sailing at Etherow with good weather and plenty of activity on the landing stage.
A varied selection of boats as can be seen on the video below.

Who could have foreseen that an hour later it would be torrential rain and hailstones that covered the car park like snow, still the sailing was good whilst it lasted.

Abstinence is a good thing but it should always be practised in moderation.

"How's the wife's driving lessons going Fred?"
"Improving, The roads are starting to turn when she does".

Remember when police didn't hide behind trees on the side of busy roads with radar guns, but took their chance out in the traffic like everybody else!.

Club night 11th April

Not many at the club night this week, I noticed that the roads were packed on the way to the meeting and guessed rightly that Man City were playing at home.
Someone mentioned that Man Utd were playing or on the Tele as well!.
Plenty of chatting and discussion at various tables on all manner of subjects of modelling, I know George Barrett and I had a good natter on the progress of our Narrow Boats, mine the leisure type and George's the working model, knowing George over the years I know his will be right down to the last rivet, what dedication, mine's not that detailed .
Frank Ogden was there with his latest project a schooner being made from an old engineering book,
been at it on and off for about 8 month's he said.
Frank's hull, nice herringbone planking
The section in his hand is the former for the lead weight

The plan's

The inside, not a case of out of sight out of mind, looks just as good.

What it will look like when finished.
Nice one Frank!

The ship's purser asked the sailor how he had spent his month's pay on shore leave.
"Some went on drink, some on women.and I guess I squandered the rest" was the reply.

Always borrow money from a pessimist, he doesn't expect to get it back.

The doctor told me to limit my drinks to one a day, I'm now up to April 16th 2020.

Saturday at the lake

Saturday found Pepe and I at the lake where the "J" class sailors Trevor,Dave and Bob were having their usual races.
Previous picture

Also there were Richard White and some of his friends from the South Manchester model club (Platt Fields)
I think they had come to suss out about "J" Class yachts from our experts.
Pity the For sale section had one on there the other day, but was soon snapped up. Still a nice Fiesta still on there though.

Richard's nice little tug

New judge for next year?, if it tastes nice its passed.

Took Pepe for a walk round the park afterwards and for those of you non-members viewing, here are some of the places in the park.
Sluice Gates

The big lake.
Our landing stage.
Header picture shows the Cafe, information centre and toilets.

Check out the Links section on the left for other scenes round the park.

Also in evidence on the landing stage! on Saturday.
This years Mother Goose.
Only 4 eggs up to now.

This was last years Mother, is it the same one?, No prizes for guessing though.

Last years clutch 14, the other wildlife eat well for a few weeks.

Club night this coming Wednesday 11th April.
Don't forget to book your seat on the coach for the Harrogate trip, 12th May, not long now, it will be here before you know it.

Name will do so Mike can get an idea of numbers, but name and Money would be better!

The Harrogate ShowTrip

The club trip for the Harrogate Show is just round the corner!!

Its not until the 12th May?? I hear you saying, BUT don't forget Mike the social sec requires names for bums on seats, if there are not enough names then it could even have to be cancelled and you don't want that I'm sure.
Here is the entry from the club diary
12th May, Harrogate Model Engineering  Show,
                                        Coach Trip,
                          Price, Members £16, Guests £18.

You couldn't buy the petrol for this price these days!!, and its £9 to get in if you go on your own, £10 if your not an OAP.

If you can't make your mind put whether to go or not click here to see the show preview

What better way for you newer members to get to know and chat to the oldies on the way and maybe pick a few brains.
As you can see, you can bring along a non member friend, its first come first served.
So make Mike's Easter and check it out to-day and give him a ring to fill the coach, or he will be at the next club meeting so you could book then!.
