Message from the Commodore, 9.9.2017.

Club 500
The committee have decided to relax the use of club 500 type boats outside of organised races and time trials. Their use is now allowed  for testing and setting up purposes at any time other than Saturdays and Sundays. Please give consideration to wildlife and slower boats when doing so.
The ban on very fast boats is still in place.

Past week at the lake!.

Past week at the lake!.
During the past week at the lake there was Lawrence White with his new build, a nice little Tug boat.
I think someone said it was a Mountfleet model?

Proud owner and that's his mates Southhampton Tug on the water in the background.

You moved Pepe!, at least I got the boat alright!.

On Saturday afternoon there was the Club 500 lads?, well they are young in heart anyway aren't they!.
Get ready!.

And their off!

The End.

Thanks to Lee for the photos of the Club 500 event!.

Last Sunday in August 2014

Last Sunday in August 2014, and what a beautiful sunny day it was.
There was quite a few sailors on the landing stage, in the early morning there was the "J" class sailors and after they came off the water there was still plenty to see.
One of the members Andrew Spencer, had these two nice models, as well as a Calypso on the water

This is one of Terry Burnett's superb models with a huge brushless motor driving a water jet with swivelling nozzle at the back to steer it, though it was too fast to have it more than a eighth open on our small lake, he said he had had the pleasure of making it with all the new technology.

Le Commodore Alan had bought this boat at the Haydock Show for his Misses Jenny, but a few minutes on the water was enough for Alan to realise that the rudder required some attention, I'm sure it will only take a couple of minutes once back at the workshop to recife that. Just have to watch he doesn't spray it Grey Jenny whilst its in there
I'm sure you all recognize this as the boat from the film "The Perfect Storm" just hope it doesn't suffer the same fate!.

So it was back to the old grey stuff for Alan with this HMS Nurton, do you know what type of boat this is, all you Ex-navy men will know, I forgot to ask him!!

Here is a close up on the bench.

A message from the Commodore.
Your commodore went to watch Club 500 last week, very entertaining might have a do myself, cheers for a very enjoyable evening, especially John Goddard?.

Boys toys, only dearer hey

Whoops, why is Charlie hiding ??.
Thanks for this Alan

Rough stuff this Club 500, perhaps needs a warning sign up when Charlie is on the water hey!.
About time something weaned Alan off the grey ones.
It was nice to see Mrs Leslie Harling there today, she had brought some of Graham's equipment and tools down to sell and the money to go to the club funds, as you know Graham's stuff was always top of the range,  many thanks for that Lesley!.
Peter.

Club 500 results July 2014

Hi All, Here are the results for racing on the 17th July 2014.
   Philip

p.s. Sorry John the line through your results is/ was by accident. P

After this hectic event on Wednesday evening,  Thursday afternoon I was down at the lake and when the "J" Class guys had gone home, it was a more relaxed scene with just plain sailing and not a competitive thought anywhere!.
Or was there?, Terry Miles was there with his latest builds, two little "Footies"

 This one was Terry's

And this one was his wife's

See what I mean, who is going to give way here?!

A relaxing afternoon, unless you get in Charlies way that is.

Glynn hasn't been home for a change of shirt this is another afternoon with his micro speed boat

And his little River Cruiser?, reminds me of that old lady on the telly (Hilda Baker ) who used to say "I must get a little finger on this watch, as Glynn keeps saying I must get a cabin for this!.

Another event being put on in the Park is this Demonstration, not by our club but you may pick up some useful tips on working with wood here.
Time for this is 10-0am to 4-00pm

Have you seen this dog, £1,000 reward, could buy a few new boats with that kind of money, plus make some owner very happy!.

If you can't read this very well the notice in up in the cafe.
...........................................................
Well that's it for today, off out whilst the sun's shining.

Club 500 results June 2014.

Here are the Club 500 results for June 2014

This was held on the usual 3rd Wednesday evening of the month, the following Wednesday evening it was an extra BBQ event with sailing on both lakes!, though not many ventured on to the big lake.

Thursday daytime whilst watching the regular sailors we were treated to this extraordinary event going on a few yards out from the landing stage.
Fighting Coots with Babies to the rescue.

I know this isn't boating but just watching the babies getting stuck in was funny to me, perhaps it's my warped sense of humour.

Thats it for now

Your next events,

1000hrs 6th July          Sunday         Fiesta Racing          Landing stage
After the fiesta racing!
Warship event in aid of the Help 4 Hero's fund

Outdoor Club Night, 25th June 2014.

Outdoor Club Night, 25th June 2014.
For a change it was decided to have a earlier BBQ and outdoor event rather than wait until it was cold and damp later in the year, had enough of that up to now haven't we.

John doing a good job as always in the bar, trying to fit in a sail as well!.

Doesn't look many here but the Gannett's are queuing up for the burgers  and hot dogs, the rest are sailing on the two lakes.

Volvo man and his better half.

 Get that down your neck.

Nice to see some of the ladies in attendance, having a night off from the cooking no doubt.

Looks serious this

The highlight of the evening for me was the warship "Scarab" quietly slipping through the water and though it was built on two planks of balsa and completely flat bottomed sailed very well, even though the Club 500 racers and Bob the Builders Slo mo 2 were creating some nice swells it sailed serenely on.
Built by member Paul Blyth, who at the Ellesmere Show earlier in the year claimed a Gold and a Silver award for his Warships.
Paul.

Scarab's bottom, props recessed in hull.
See more in the video!.

Another good night and a big thanks to Mike again for getting his apron on and doing the cooking and not forgetting his efforts in the shopping before hand as well.

Club 500 rule scoring

Find here additions to the Club 500 rules ie new scoring!, by Philip Laxton the Club 500 Sec

If a person manages to start the race we should get some sort of score, even if it's just considered a consolation score, no zeros on the scorecard! This would go some way to even out large differences we now get. The consistent finishers will still be in front but the non finishers will not appear to be as far behind, which must be a good feel factor for the DNF'rs.  I think it would also encourage those who boats were not really ready but could maybe just chug off the line, giving them a score and encouragement. Maybe for that, say, they have to at least go 10 meters (the first buoy!) from the start line or been in a start type debilitating collision, which we all know can happen a couple of feet from the off!

As such I propose the following as a possible simple method:
The DNF'rs would all get the score of the last possible place of that particular race (except when there is less than 6 start);
10 starters last place would be 1 points to the DNF'rs,
9 starters last place would be 2 points to the DNF'rs
8 starters last place would be 3 points to the DNF'rs
7 starters last place would be 4 points to the DNF'rs
6 starters last place would be 5 points to the DNF'rs
With a maximum points possible for a DNFr set at five

A couple of examples;

Say there are 9 starters but only 4 finishers, if you came in 9th and last you would have got 2 points, so the 4 none finishers would get 2 points a piece
1st - 10 points,    2nd - 9 points, 3rd - 8 points, 4th - 7 points,  --- 5 none finishers would get 2 points each

Less than 6 starters, say only 5 start and only 3 finish,
1st - 10 points,    2nd - 9 points, 3rd - 8 points, --- 2 none finishers would get 5 points each

Not to complicated really, and I think it would help all, the best will still win, but the unlucky won't feel so left behind…
ALL BOATS RACING MUST HAVE A RUBBER OR SOFT NOSE.

Philip.

I have added the additions to the Club 500 tab at the top, to make it easier to see at a later date.
Peter.
