Nice sunny Thursday 2013

Down at the lake this Thursday 26th Sept 2013, it was a beautiful sunny autumn day and it certainly brought out our sailors!.
Having a chat with Eric Presley, he showed me his latest find in an auto shop which he had tried and found very good. He had made a bigger rudder for his 10 hatch coaster (his latest project)  and wanted to bond it to the brass post and tried this product he had found by chance.
As you can see on the box it bonds most things and as it say's on the box "Rock hard in 10 seconds"

Eric found this produce very good for the job he was doing, so I thought it might be of interest to you as well, always good to have some feedback on things people have tried with success.
You fill the gap with powder and then squeeze in a few drops of the liquid and Bob's your uncle, check out with Eric if you need anymore info on this product.

See below for job nicely done by Eric, well bonded and nice and easy to clean up afterwards.

Whilst at the lake and in between having a sail myself took this video of some of the models on the table and on the water, hope you like it.

I also found a transmitter on one of the benches after most of the sailors had gone home and as luck would have it had an idea who had sat near there, so was able to phone up a couple of guys on the off chance and found the owner quite quickly!, perhaps it would be an idea if everyone put their names on the back of their trannies and they might get them back a bit easier, just a thought!.

Sunny Sunday at Etherow 22nd Sept 2013

After the poor previous weeks weather, arrived at the lake on Sunday to a beautiful sunny day, as the Club 500 guys have changed their dates for the next couple of months due to the nights getting too dark to race, it was racing day for them. I think there was quite a few sailors there early to get in a sail before the afternoon racing got going.
As I'm probabell-y  known as the guy who turns up with a camera and a dog instead of a boat it must have been a surprise for some to see me sailing with my Micro Magic and then my No 57 Fiesta, I  then got out the camera to video the others there enjoying the beautiful sunny conditions

After a bite of lunch at the cafe where some of the other guys were dining and we had set the world to rights it was back to the lake for another sail before the fast guys got started!.
I didn't stay too long after the racing got started, I'm more of a relaxed yacht sailor myself, I know I'm supposed to be impartial but I don't like to see grown men crying when their boats flip over!, only joking really.

Commodores Challenge 2013

Report by the Commodore

Five competitors and a number of spectators enjoyed the sunshine and gentle breeze (and hence a drift down the lake) in this year's challenge - a straight running competition.  Luckily no boats sank but there were a few "banana" shots on the target which is inevitable when one is building an experimental boat.  The allowance for an optional speed controller or servo operated cut-off switch  this year prevented boats crashing into the sides of the lake and facilitated the retrieval of some boats.
Competitors had three runs on the target and their two best scores were added to give a final result.  Peter Bruce came a close second but congratulations to our winner, Terry Miles, who has held on to the Challenge Cup for a second year.

Nice sunny day, even though some of the contestants thought there was too much wind!.

The weekend of the Haydock show,  we had a visitor at the lake as my guest that some of you will know or recognize, as he was a member of our club for many years before emigrating to Wales!
Ray Benson of the Colwyn Bay MBC

This is his latest project, which if I remember right was a kit with a lot of modifications.

If you are having a drink in this hot weather, have it neat, after looking at the water on the big lake!.

Bob Abell....News at Ten....Haydock Park Model Boat Show 2013

Bob Abell....News at Ten....Haydock Park Model Boat Show 2013

Went to the show, with the Missus, as she likes the horses!......but there was none to be seen, obviously!

We didn't actually go to see the models, this year, as we were on a mission to meet Paul Thomason. Paul is designing a range of easy build launches, which he intends to sell on the ModelBoats Magazine website in aid of charity

The writer has volunteered to build the prototype model and the show was ideal for a progress meeting.

Couple of our members showing interest there Bob!.

The model was placed adjacent to our very nice club stand....Well done, chaps!

Alas we missed meeting each other by 5 minutes!.....Ships passing in the night, springs to mind!

Back to the show....

We enjoyed the show very much. The exhibition was spread over about a dozen halls! They were very, comfy, well lit and nicely arranged, with plenty of space, to stand and stare!

The food counters were very nice, one for bacon butties etc and another was the restaurant type, with cooked meals being served.....and very nice too

There were two portable inflateable pools demonstrating the various model types of models.
Hovercraft put on a spectacular display this year,

There were about twenty club stands and quite a few trade stands, Arthur Barlow made sure the visitors went through the trade stand halls first

Some of the models were of outstanding quality, especially the Russian show stands

We enjoyed meeting up with old friends, Les Jones, Dave Wooley, Arthur Barlow John Dowd and some familiar faces, names of which, lost in time!

Verdict......One of the best shows we've been to, and will definitely be going again, next year!

See you there........Bob Abell

Thanks again for the report Bob, don't know how you do it for the price!.

That's all for now folks, getting squared away after my week in Scotland.
