Message from the new Commodore. 15.7.2017.

As many of you may know I have taken over as commodore after Alan stood down. I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his time and effort. I have been in several model boat clubs over the past 25 years and I have been on the committee of two of them. There is a lot of work that goes behind the scenes to keep the club running. Alan has done a tremendous job improving our facilities and keeping us sailing. As have the other committee members. Thank you again Alan. 

I'm finding my feet at the moment but  if you have any suggestions or ideas for the club please let me know.

Just a reminder to all that our annual regatta takes place on Sunday 23rd July from 11-00am.  I'm working on the day unfortunately but Hopefully the sun will shine for you.

After Christmas & New Year, 2017.

   The norm now seems to be after every Open Day/Evening Sail /Frostbite Sail, being the last, I get complaints about fast electrics!.
It was decided at the committee meeting on 2nd Jan 2017, in future fast boats at events will be allotted a time slot say 15 or 20 min.
If on a normal sailing day, sort it amongst yourselves to split fast boat from sail and slower boats!.
Be aware the future of this clubs use of the lake is in your hands at all times!, ie Injury of the wild fowl can be the cause of this, many people come to the park to show their children the birds and to feed them, any of our boats seen to injure them is well noted and it wouldn't take too many complaints to have our lease revoked.

First sail 2017

Today at the lake as you can see by how the sailors are wrapped up it was quite cold and a bit of a breeze,  which whilst welcomed by the yachtsmen the wind chill factor seemed to make it a bit worse!

Not the North Atlantic, but quite cool at this end of the lake.

Bournville MBC.

Went to the Bournville MBC sub dive in,

good weather, lots of subs, put the club name on the map.

Lots of chat about subs and lots of sailing,

Mrs B is suffering from withdrawal symptoms after being so close to Cadburys.

Large lake ban,16.7.2016

After a meeting with the federation secretary for the fishermen due to an incident on the large lake with one of our members and an angler, I have decided to suspend all sailing on the large lake till 2017, when we will revue the situation.

We had a cracking day at Batley, Kirklees M B C . a really hot day with sun from 11am.  four trade stands and many clubs in attendance , thanks to our members who attended, never seen so many boats on a lake at the same time!.

 Stan Reffin claims it was a record with some thirty boats on show and on the lake.

We are invited back next year!.

Scene at the lake!.

The past week as seen a good turn out at the lake, with a good selection of Tugs and Yachts.

The weather wasn't too bad, but as you can see there was two parasols up just in case!.

As stated in the previous post, there is a Charity Do on at the Yacht Club this week, on Saturday 25th and we have been asked to sail a few of our boats on our lake to support them.

Al, our Comm has been informed by the Commodore of the Yacht Club that they are holding a Charity Do on the 25th of June 2016 and asked us if we will join in by showing off our modelling skills with a show of our models on our lake on the day!.

This is a chance to show off your best models and answer the usual questions by Joe Public, ie how much is it, how fast will it go and how long did it take to make it?.

So if you are like me and enjoy answering these kind of questions and perhaps swell our numbers with a few well chosen answers and telling them that its only £25 per year and you can sail  everyday!.

A good night was had by all at the auction of Jim Browns stuff, but as one get's older you realise you can't please everyone!, and on the whole it was a good night.

 I hope Jim was happy with the result for his sales!.

 I'm sure everyone will join me in wishing him a happy new home, hopefully he will be able to get down to the lake now!, when the weather get's a bit warmer that it!!.

There will be sailing in the pool so plenty of scope there and you submariners will be able to see your boats for a change!.

Telford Model Show.

The details for the Telford trip are now finalised and are as follows:

Coach is £8 per person and Entry tickets have to be purchased at the Door on arrival as they do not do block bookings or purchases of tickets.   Prices for tickets are

£10   for normal Entry

£7  for Concession

Under 16 are Free

Coach pick-up times are 8 AM  at Morrisons Denton.

                                        8:15 AM at Wicks in Stockport

 Members who are interested Coach Money to Mike Hodgson.
