Great Eastern at Etherow

Not being abell to attend the club regatta yesterday I have seen the results of Bob Abell's  Great Eastern cable laying tests on Model Boat's magazine on-line thread,  he seems to have a new No 1 in Glyn Wyche who is doing a good job by the looks of it .
I will be relegated  to No 2 if I don't get back in the saddle soon, but as Bob says " family comes first".

Good in'it

Velda in Hospital

If you went to the club meeting this week you will have heard that secretary Velda is in hospital, so just to put you in the picture, she was taken in on a 999 call Tuesday  morning and since then has been under going tests and scans, with more scans this morning including a camera down the throat  ( have asked her to get a copy for the blog video's , Only kidding )  and then perhaps they can start the road to recovery.
Still they have to decide what the trouble is first don't they. At the moment its a toss up between appendicitis and /or gall bladder, she is always going for the two for one option at the supermarket or pub grub, but I think she could have given that a miss in this case.
Will keep you informed.
Though I won't be able to attend the weekend events in the circumstances I hope the weather is kind to you if your going, got to be better that Glastonbury !!

Check the "For Sale " section you new members some good bargains on there!

Yes over the past few weeks we have had a few more members join the club and I know you will welcome them and help the first time builders with your expertise and advise.
Must go and get the vacuum  out and the washing done, can't let standards drop or I will be getting my legs slapped when she comes home!

I'm sure Chris will have all the details ready for you about the coming weekend as well.

There will be Club members sailing on both days on our lake and the lifeboats on the big lake on the 26th , so bring your boats even if they aren't life boats.

Lesley Harling

Received an e-mail today from Graham's wife Lesley and she wished to thank the club for their donations.
Quote.
"If you could thank the Club members so much for their most generous donation
and to tell them how much coming down to the pool meant to Graham especially
when he became so ill at Christmas, but he recovered, ( Kirsty called them
our bonus months) and the first place he wanted to be was  to spend more
happy hours at the pool.  It was the one place that he could chat to other
chaps about  the things that  interested him (modeling and sailing) and
share ideas and get inspiration.."

Thank you for that Lesley, the club has lost an excellent craftsman and gentleman.

Fred described the bump on his head as a glancing blow.
"The wife caught me glancing at a blonde" he said.
............................................................................................
Fred was hammering away at some woodwork in his back yard when his mate Charlie looked over the fence.
"Aren't you coming to work to-day?" he asked.
"No said Fred". He had to stay home and mind his wife who was sick with a sore throat and the flu.
Hearing a strange gurgling noise coming from the house Charlie asked; " Is that her coughing?"
"Don't be stupid", said Fred , "she'd never fit into this. she's 15 stone. This is a kennel for the dog"!

As you can see its a crowded Landing stage, but with the awful weather lately these guys are the only ones happy with it

Summer evening visit by Bob Abell, nearly got mugged or should I say Goosed!

................................................................................................
"Mr Minister!" boomed the back bencher, "What are you doing about the Abortion Bill?"
"Shhh, not so loud," said the Minister, "I'm paying it tomorrow".

This month,Fiesta's and meetings

Don't forget its Fiesta racing to-morrow 5th June !
As the first Wednesday fell on the 1st June this month, it means that the Club meeting will also fall in this weeks calender 8th June.I know the 2nd and 4th Wednesday's confuse some members, but there you go the dates to remember for club meeting this month.

8th June talk by Terry Miles talk on Paint Technology, something most of us stumble on

22nd June social evening,
Phil from Hyde models will be there again, as he seemed to be a hit last time he came, if you need something specific why not check out his number in the shops section and ask him to bring it, he has said he will do this any time, so save yourself a trip to the shop and let your fingers do the walking as the old advert used to say!.

Have you been following Bob Abell's project on Model Boats Magazine on the Great Eastern cable laying , If not why not take a look now at
http://www.modelboats.co.uk/forums/postings.asp?th=50815

This has caused quite a stir on this thread with over 3,000 views so far, quite a lot since he only started recently.
I'm sure he will be bringing it to the regatta this month, Yes its regatta time again soon comes round doesn't it and the next day its the RNLI day with people coming from everywhere for that!

For Sale Section

Check  out the "For sale " section (down on the left hand side) as there is a Billings boat just put on there from a person who isn't a member but used to be I'm told. Its a Billings BANCKERT Dutch Tug Boat
90% finished but not completed due to ill health.
Though not a member now, still put on the blog to help this old member and perhaps be of use to one of you looking for a tugboat. (Picture there as well).
