Henry Hollis R.I.P.

Sad news again I'm afraid!, I was informed last night that Henry Hollis one of our oldest members and a true gentleman had passed away.
Though most people didn't realise it Henry had been fighting cancer for quite a while but didn't let many people know.
In his eighties he was until recently still sailing at the lake and also a keen model helicopter pilot.
Will be sadly missed!.

The arrangements are as follows,
Have been advised by Henry's family of funeral details:
Date: Monday 28th April
Time: 1:00 p.m.
Church: Norbury Parish church (on A6 on the left hand side just down from the Rising Sun public house towards Stockport).

Thanks a lot
Andy Wagstaff.

Some good news and some bad Feb 2014

Today I have some good news and some bad!.
First the good news, the auction that was cancelled for the last club meeting due to bad weather is back on again this coming club night, 26th Feb 2014, so still a chance to grab a few bargains!.

Now for the bad news, I've just hear from Mike the social Sec that Eddie Outen one of the stalwarts of the club has passed away in his sleep and was found by his wife in bed, nothing more on this sad occasion at the moment but perhaps more will be announced at the next club meeting.

So I'm sure you will join me in saying that we have lost a wonderful  member and a gentleman in Eddie, they don't come along  like him very often do they.
What more can I say, very sad, will publish any other information as and when I get it!.
Peter.

An early Sunday

Sunday 17th Feb saw a nice Sunday day at the lake, with the fiesta sailors getting in some practice for this  year's Competition which start's on the first Sunday in March if you fancy a go turn up on the day with your fiesta and see how you go, you never know you could get a nice trophy at the end of the season.
The Cormorant mentioned in the previous post was taken down yesterday by one of the warden's and his assistant, with the help of the yacht club's rescue boat "Hippo" , piloted by our own Richard, looked strange with an extension ladder on board!. I'd forgotten to mention it was all taking place on one of the islands in the big lake.
You can just see the bird above the warden's left shoulder!.
The other bird that was on the water in the last post was sat on a branch next to the dead one, so now it's gone can get on with looking of another mate perhaps.
Now the completion's are going to get under way next month there will hopefully be more boat related items to report with my Abell roving reporter Bob.
More information been added to the history tab to-day, thanks to Bob's research again.
That's all for now folks

Latest News

The last Club Meeting saw a good attendance and the Commodore Chris gave a good talk on his latest project which he is covering on the outside with lytho plate which he said was used by the printing industry.

There was also a request from the yacht club for volunteers and helpers for the up coming
Raft Races event on Bank Holiday Monday the 4th of June.,
small things like making sure everyone is handed out a life jacket before going on the water, and anyone help man or woman the tea bar.

Always seem to have a bit of bad news as well don't we!, yesterday George Barrett phoned me to say he wouldn't be down to the club for a while as he was knocked off his motorbike, car going 10 mph he going 5 mph, as always the motorcyclist comes off worst don't they, more sinned against than sin, (I know I've been into motor cycling)
George sustained a broken ankle and is in a plaster cast, he is going to Stepping Hill  Hospital again to-day so they can have another look once the swelling as gone down.
I'm sure he will be glad of a chat now and then from his mates at the club and I'm sure he will be Abell to get a lift to the meetings again soon!.
On a lighter note Bob Abell sent me this picture, as we are both into photography we were just saying the other day we never see baby Mandarin Ducks and here is his picture from yesterday.

I know we don't like the duck poo on the landing stage but you have to like these and you don't see them at our end of the lake so they are not the guilty poo'ers hey.
Nice picture Bob!

So don't forget this coming Monday the 4th June Raft racing event on the big lake, our lake will still   be available for us to show the public our hobby and efforts in the model world.
...................................................................................................
Don't forget folks, every boat can be is a mine sweeper, once!
PS
Just spoke to George and asked how he went on at the hospital. they'd phoned him this morning and told him not to go to-day and leave it until Monday morning and go to the fracture clinic then, there will be too much swelling to-day they said.
He has broken his leg at the bottom near the ankle, it seems.
The other driver as admitted liability to the Police and Georges insurance people so that's a good point!

Lesley Harling

Received an e-mail today from Graham's wife Lesley and she wished to thank the club for their donations.
Quote.
"If you could thank the Club members so much for their most generous donation
and to tell them how much coming down to the pool meant to Graham especially
when he became so ill at Christmas, but he recovered, ( Kirsty called them
our bonus months) and the first place he wanted to be was  to spend more
happy hours at the pool.  It was the one place that he could chat to other
chaps about  the things that  interested him (modeling and sailing) and
share ideas and get inspiration.."

Thank you for that Lesley, the club has lost an excellent craftsman and gentleman.
