3rd December 2015

3rd December 2015.

A cold and windy day at the lake but didn't deter the regular Thursday crowd!

Gone to the Pub??, don't think so, more like the Cafe for a hot drink and a Sausage buttie, is your boat here?.
Eric's Model Slipway 10 hatch coaster.
Nice mover as are all Model Slipways model's!.

A new bench put in the other day in front of the Yacht Clubs landing stage, think these are by private subscription as the Council don't seem to be putting much in the kitty these days though are quite happy to take our yearly fees aren't they!.

The recent bad weather has certainly raised the water level in the river and as you can see its quite rough down there.

Breaking News, Oct 2015

Breaking News, Oct 2015

You saw it here first!.
The old owl next to the Post Office in Compstall was a bit of a land mark, but over the years rotted away, there again it was cut down because it was rotten in the first place so at least it spent its last few years useful as the parks emblem.
Today the friends of Etherow installed a new one on the village green, it will be unveiled shortly with a little ceremony, but here it is for you now!.

So you can tell your visiting friends to turn at the owl again!.

Tug Day at Etherow today, 7.5.2015

Tug Day at Etherow today, 7.5.2015

Today at the lake there were the usual Thursday crowd sailing yachts and motorised boats.
It was a bad day early on with heavy rain and overcast skies, but it cleared up later and by then it was only these tugs left to film!.
Al the Comm, Eric Presley (No relation) and Garth were the Captains involved, pity there was nothing for them to push and pull about, still I think Alan was of the same opinion, so think he will be looking into the idea.
Must look at my Wyeforce and get it refurbished in case anything comes of that!.

After piling rubble on the top section of the garden last year to keep the geese from building their nests there, this week a Canada Goose has taken up residence a bit lower down and must be very nest proud has she has taken all the flowers out of Mrs Dootsons vase and lined her nest with them!.
That's the way to do it!

That would make a nice big omelette wouldn't it.
Trouble is it's quite cold so a bit of a waste of time for her.

Very decorative hey, Don't think Mrs Dootson will be impressed though

No rain, but also no wind!,22nd January 2015.

No rain, but also no wind!,22nd January 2015.

At the lake today there were the usual Thursday sailors, but they were not happy chappies as there wasn't a lot of wind about, plenty of hot air as you can hear on the video, but no wind!, still it meant a bit more trade for the Cafe and you know what they say "Use it or lose it", so no problem in that area today.
Lovely sausage and bacon butties, can't be bad, not very good for the old arteries but it keeps out the cold hey, thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it!.
You will see that the rescue boat had a mind of its own today and drifted off up the lake whilst everyone had stopped for their lunch, soon got it back and it gave the sailors a bit of a challenge on how to get it back!.

Perhaps you will excuse the lack of posts the last few days but its always a bit slack at this time of the year isn't it!.

Dumb
She thought an Aperitif was a false set of dentures.

She thought a bigamist was a thick Italian fog.

He thought polyunsaturated was a parrot in a rain coat.

He thought a polygon was a dead parrot.

He thought a cross section of the public were taxpayers.

The small group in the first aid class was getting a lecture on how to stop bleeding.
"Off course you all know what a corpuscule is" said the instructor.
"Most of us do" said the Commodore "but you'd better explain for the sake of those who have never been in one".

Its the way I tell em.

Thats all for now folks.

No boats today, 20014.

No boats today, 20014.

At the lake today it was wet and windy so didn't expect any sailors there, so instead of boats, here is a look round the park for those of you who never get past the landing stage on most days!.

As you follow the centre path round the lake you come across the badger sett and there is still plenty of digging going on there.

Then on the way back to the Cafe there are these trees that seem to defy gravity and it's always a mystery how they stay up with the high winds we have had the past few weeks

Nearly back to the Cafe for a nice warm drink and perhaps a low cholesterol bacon buttie.

Still a few people about at the Cafe, mostly regulars, and the kids are off school of course!.

Have you ever noticed the weather vane on top of the Cafe, or are you normally too interested with the food!.

I think that you have all noticed the two swans and their admirer, the Egyptian goose, nicknamed King Tut by Bob the Builder!.

Sorry about the lack of boats but the swans look a bit like yachts in the wind don't they!.

King Tut chasing off another rival.

He's happy now!.

So there you have it, no boats but as I said earlier gives you a look round the park even if you only come to sail usually!, and if you are a non member it gives you a taste of our venue doesn't it.
