Haydock Show, 2017.

For those of us that didn't make it to Haydock this year, here is a picture of our beautiful club stand!.

Everyone I've spoken too that went to the show said it was very large and took some getting round, that's because we have quite a few members that aren't as young as they were I suspect!.
The other thing some mentioned were that there wasn't as many trade stands as they would have liked!,  there again you can't please everyone can you. I'm surprised that there are any these days with the Internet and prices lower than the model shops can keep up to And free postage from China!!.
....................................
Back on home waters this past week here are some of the boats and Members on view.

Camouflage working well?, my picture out of focus really but gives you the idea of the camouflage doesn't it?.

Look at the detail here

Another warship.

And One Metre's on the big Lake!.

Slack week at the lake,17-20th Jan.

Been slack at the lake this week in more ways than one!.
Tuesday and Thursday sailors abandoned their boats and most of them retired to the Cafe.
It was quite cold, but that doesn't usually deter these stalwarts, it was the lack of any wind at all!, on both days!

I heard that three of the lads had a trip to Housemartin Sails on the Wirral, and had a good time and got some good bargains there.

Our friends at Colwyn Bay MBC look as though they are getting stuck into their refurbishment at their new venue, the lake in the park next to the old lake we have been sailing on previously!.
Might be worth a trip to see their efforts, when the weather improves of course!.

My friend is engaged in a major custody battle. His wife doesn't want him and his mother won't have him back!.

Wild and windy at Etherow

Today at the Lake it was wild and windy though it didn't put off the hardy crowd that usually get there on a Tuesday, though some of them did spend a bit longer in the cafe lingering over their bacon butties.
I had mine put in a box and Pepe and I sat in the car watching the sailors struggling with the wind.
I'm still on track with my cholestrol as long as I don't have anything else to eat until a week on Friday!.

One of the regular ladies that come to the lakeside Cafe most days was showing me the headlines of the local paper, think it was the "Tameside Trumpet" where it was stated that the next few weeks were going to be really bad with temperatures going down to -9 Degrees!, never mind sit in front of the fire and watch the Tuesday sailors battling the wind today!

.......................................................................
After  Fred answered the phone yet again he said to his young wife.
"Thats funny, we must have a number similar to the Weather Bureau, that's the third bloke to ring and ask if the coast was clear!.

It rained Cats and Dogs, Poodles everywhere!

It was so cold the local flasher was spotted describing himself to a group of ladies.

It was as cold as a barmaids heart!.

Muggy, Damp day at the lake

Muggy, Damp day at the lake
Today at the lake it was drizzly, damp and not very nice though it didn't put off these hardy sailors, sorry if I didn't catch you all there, but didn't want my chest infection back with all the damp and cold.
Here is a video of the sailors that were there when I was there.

Commodore Al said that there were negotiations going on with the yacht club to have electrics put into our container and help with the yacht club's electrics too!.
The painting of the container will be held up at the moment with this weather, or we will be wasting your money with it blistering the first time it get's warm and coming off in big sheets!.
Not long before the Club Christmas dinner again, can't believe its a year since the last one, still time flies when you're having fun doesn't it, mind you at most of our ages it seem too fly as well!.
That's all for now folks, see you at the dinner.

Container arrived, Oct 2014.

I was at the lake today and just in time to see the container arrive.
For those that didn't know the committee had decided to buy a shipping container which would be placed in the boat yard next to the yachtsmans already there.
The Commodore came dashing in has he had had a phone call that it was arriving this morning, he just had time for a quick cuppa in the Cafe before the truck arrived, it looked a lot smaller on the truck but when it was off loaded it looked a lot bigger.
It will certainly be better than lugging stuff up and down those stairs and some exhibition stuff will be able to be left in the trailer it would appear.
 Just arrived.

Keeping his eye on the Chihuahua in the yard.

 Going up

Alan making sure the paints not scratched.

 Nearly there!.

Slipping the driver a couple of quid.
If you take a drink, Don't take mine!.

Checking it out by the sailors of the day

Bit of a step there, but used the flagstones supplied by Alan

And there you have it, ready to be filled!.
Only has to be painted Conker Brown to match the other one now.

A couple of nice boats sailing on the day, now the excitement was over.
A nice barge belonging to Andy, and be warned if there is going to be some barge racing in the future this is the one to watch out for!.

One of Trevors One Metre boats.

That's it for today Folks!.

A Summer Thursday August 2014.

This Thursday (21st August), saw a good selection of Motorised and Sailboats at the lake.
A bit cool for August but at least the rain stayed off and the food at the cafe was nice and hot!.

The duck and goose deterrent is still working well on the landing stage and the floor is looking all the better for it and no brushing and sweeping off before starting to sail, boat on the water straight away and off we go!.

Flag Pole at Anfield

The Anfield Flag Pole from SS Great Eastern Telegraph Cable ship

The topmast of the SS Great Eastern, one of the first iron ships, was rescued from the ship breaking yard at Rock Ferry, and was hauled up Everton Valley by a team of horses, to be erected alongside the new Kop. It still stands there, serving as a flag pole in the famous Anfield Stadium, home of Liverpool Football Club.

Bet most of you didn't know that, there are lots more interesting facts about this great ship
Article sent by Bob (Ace reporter) Abell.
...............................................
It was reported to me at the lake yesterday that the Quiz and Hot pot supper was another success, so good that members stayed longer than the usual 9-o'clock, it being 10-o'clock before the last ones left!.

At the lake yesterday saw the usual sailors there enjoying the sunshine and though it had been quite cold during the night, both lakes were ice free.
There was Garth with his Tug, Eric with his "Aziz" and the Commodore with his Submarine, yachtsmen instead of their usual "J" class's had a variety of One metre boats on the water which was a nice change to see!.
Spoke to Mike the social Sec and his operation for a new hip joint was finally done on the 20th of this month and he is now back home, some of you will have seen him at the Quiz night!, now taking it easy so it knits to-gether alright, I'm sure all the members will join me in wishing him a speedy recovery!.

Is this him from now on?
Do you remember this guy??.

That's all folk's.
